Purdue Men’s Basketball Entices Arizona to Play in the Indy Classic

Adam Cairns-The Columbus Dispatch

Indianapolis is getting a marquee matchup between two massive NCAA Men’s Basketball programs. The Indiana Sports Corp just recently revealed the field for the second annual Indy Classic. The field is stacked with major matchups like Purdue and Arizona, but also a decent undercard bout like Ball State vs. Indiana State.

Setting the Stage

Both Arizona and Purdue are looking to be on the list of contenders for that coveted NCAA title. Purdue expects to bring back nearly all of its roster from last year with Zach Edey being the headliner. If Matt Painter can develop the guards to be competent against the press, then the Boilermakers might have quite the squad on their hands.

Arizona is expected to be a contender simply because they always are. I can’t wait for this showdown in Gainbridge Fieldhouse next season, especially with both teams having massive chips on their shoulders from their shocking first-round exits in the most recent tournament. Purdue’s loss coming to Farliegh Dickenson University and Arizona’s heartbreak coming at the hands of Princeton.

Both losses shocked the sports world. I look forward to watching both teams spend all season trying to put that behind them. The Indy Classic on December 16th will be another step to exercising those 2023 Tournament demons for both teams.
