Notre Dame Football: Will Cam Williams Be the Real Deal?

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

This past April high school junior, Cam Williams went on CBS Sports Live and announced his commitment to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Cam is a hot shot prospect at the wide receiver position out of Glen Elyn, Illinois. He is a unanimous 4 star recruit and hopes to add to the offense in South Bend. He also had offers from 17 other big name football programs.

So why has Cam Williams been so sought after when he doesn’t graduate high school for another year?

Cam Williams’ Strengths

The kid is an athlete. He already stands at six feet and two inches tall, giving him an elite catch radius at the high school level. He also has gamebreaking speed, flashing up the sideline and blasting by safeties before they can even remember what coverage they’re in. But the thing that stuck out to me the most in his tape is his high football IQ at such a young age.

He already has an uncanny ability at finding soft spots in the zone, throttling down, and setting up camp wide open in the middle of the defense. He also shows great instincts when his quarterback gets flushed out of the pocket. Williams has no problem staying active and running toward the same sideline as his QB, ensuring he stays a target.

Adding to the Arsenal

Cam Williams is just another addition to a stacked 2024 recruiting class by Notre Dame. They first kicked things off by getting star QB CJ Carr out of Michigan who is not only a consensus four star recruit, but also a consensus top 5 QB in the class of 2024. What followed was a flurry  of high powered, offensive recruits. I think it is safe to say that, in two seasons from now, the Irish could be rolling out a young, prolific group for which the sky will be the limit.
