Indianapolis Indians Stumble Late After Strong Start vs. Storm Chasers
The Indians have cooled off a bit. Since welcoming the Storm Chasers to town on Tuesday, the Indians have lost both games. Granted the games have been close only being decided by three runs all together. Tuesday was a low scoring affair, while both Indianapolis and Omaha’s offenses exploded on Wednesday.
The Strong Start
The Indians got off to a quick start by blanking the Storm Chasers in the first inning and notching two runs themselves when it was their time at the plate, but after the first inning the two sides would trade punches like Ali and Frazier.
Trading Punches
CJ Alexander would get the party started for Omaha in the top of the second inning with a three run slam to right-center field. The hurt would not stop there, however, as Tyler Gentry would double down the line bringing across another run and sending a runner to third base. The Indians would finally get out of the inning. Before they knew it, the Indy boys would be looking at a 4-2 deficit. They wouldn’t trail long. The bats stayed hot as Cal Mitchell would hit a 2 run shot to bring the score level at four. Later in the inning, the Indians would actually go on to take a commanding lead as Andujar and Shackelford would each bring in a run. By the end of the third, the script was flipped and the Storm Chasers were staring at a 7-4.
Lead Disappears
It didn’t take the Storm Chasers any time at all to respond. Their very next turn at the plate saw the Indy lead vanish. First, it was a sac fly hit by Samad Taylor to bring home CJ Alexander to bring the score to 7-5. Next, it was Tyler Gentry hitting a hard line drive to left field that would result in a double for gentry and two more runs for the Storm Chasers. Just like that the game was tied. The Indians would leave in Borucki in the ninth and, off of Borucki, the Storm Chasers would take the lead for good. First, off a sac fly and then a bases-loaded walk, which would bring us to our final score of 9-7 in favor of the Storm Chasers.
The Indians will play the Storm Chasers later today, hoping to keep alive the possibility of winning this home series against their rivals. The loss yesterday brings the Indians to 28-30 leaving them in seventh place in the International League West.
